The Garden Club of Spring Lake promotes and supports the betterment of our community and environment. This is accomplished through community outreach, volunteer work, charitable works and teaching/learning opportunities. While our club is a “working” club, we are also a “social” club. We are fortunate to have enthusiastic, multi-talented and hardworking members from diverse backgrounds. Friendships are forged as good works are being accomplished.

The club designs, plants and maintains gardens throughout Spring Lake. With our plantings, we beautify the train station, parks, and municipal properties. Spring Lake’s “welcome” sign is planted with pink perennials and annuals to promote breast cancer awareness. Large flower containers are provided by our members to our boardwalk area. A Native Plant Garden attracts butterflies and bees for pollination and provides a natural habitat for birds. Holy Trinity Church, a National Historic Register site, is an ongoing landscaping project by our club.

Many charitable works are accomplished by The Garden Club of Spring Lake. Members plant and maintain vegetable gardens as well as donate money, collected at our monthly meetings, to our local food bank, Fulfill. Our club members donate funds, buy, wrap and distribute gifts for The Spring Lake Community House’s annual Christmas Fund which provides gifts to needy families throughout the area. All of our members participate in our annual garden tour, and the money that is raised provides scholarships for local high school seniors who plan to study horticulture or environmental subjects in college. Numerous friendships have been developed through our volunteer work.

Learning experiences are provided at our monthly meetings. Presenters and Master Gardeners teach our group about conservation, gardening and wildlife in our area. Conserving our environment is an important part of our club. An environmental newsletter is presented at our meetings informing us on the protection and conservation of our environment.

Refreshments, provided before the start of our monthly meetings, allow our members to socialize and meet new people from our community. June, October, and December luncheons are held every year. Flower design classes and day trips are organized by club members. These events and participation in club projects provide a lovely social aspect to our club.

The Spring Lake Garden Club seeks to work within our community. We encourage the conservation and preservation of our town’s lakes, parks and oceanfront. Additionally, we support local charitable organizations and award scholarships to local students. Our members’ love of gardening and beautification draws us together as our efforts benefit our lovely community.
